Windermere Area Guide

Located in Orange County, Windermere is the perfect small town. Great to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy work world and yet close enough to the big city to enjoy the amenities offered and still be home in time for your favorite late night talk show.

Established in 1889 and chartered in 1925, Windermere has been home to luminaries from several fields, including athletes, a former Florida Supreme Court Justice and a retired General, among others. With a population of around 3,000 people, Windermere has the air of a town that will make you feel like family the moment you arrive.
Surrounded by sand bottom lakes, including the largest, Lake Butler on the west, Butler, Down and six other lakes are connected via canal to form what is known as the Butler Chain. Located on an isthmus, it’s on the shortest road route between the east and west sides of the chain, popular with both local residents and visitors.
